Cambodia: Places

From the 8th century till about four hundred years ago, Shiva and Vishnu temples were built in profusion by successive Hindu kings of Cambodia. Expect to see no Shiva or Vishnu idols anywhere in Siem Reap though – all have been removed or vandalised. In addition to the mighty Angkor Wat, there are fantastic gems of Khmer architecture at Roluos, the ‘miniature’ temples of Banteay Srei, the spung-tree monastery at Ta Prohm and the wondrous, dizzying ‘rock faces’ of Bayon.
