The famed Kanchi Kamakshi lives here in Kanchipuram – although during my visit her temple lay hidden behind unsightly scaffolding. Ekambareshwar temple with its slender gopuram is a sprawling Chola construction abuzz with visitors. The much older Pallavas from today’s Andhra evidently had a thing for lion-like yazhis and built the Kailasanathar temple with a fascinating, endless motif of the mythical beast. For all that, this Shiva temple lies derelict along the lines of Darasuram and Gangaikondacholapuram.
